On Sunday 21st October, 41 members set out on a bright sunny morning to celebrate the 10thAnniversary of the formation of our club.

We travelled, courtesy of a 1974 Bristol bus, to our lunch venue, The Buck Inn at Malham.

Members enjoyed a varied selection from the menu, with adequate portions , cooked to perfection and served with a smile.

After the meal, our chairman invited members to offer any comments or reflections on the past decade. John Ogden – a founder member - thanked everybody for coming and commented that he hoped we would continue to uphold the original ethos of the club ( to keep a membership limit of 100 ).

Pam Gardner spoke for the ladies in saying that they felt welcome as members of “Dales”.

Jeremy read cards from other founder members, Roy Wilcock and Neil and Kath Kershaw who sent their good wishes , as for family reasons, were unable to attend.

After a thoroughly good meal, we left The Buck and boarded our bus for a further trip , via Gargrave, Hellifield and Gisburn, back to our “pick-up” points.

All-in-all, we had a splendid day out, - “a right good do” - and Bring on the next 10.

Postscript

Recently , “The Buck” was criticised by a ‘reviewer’ in the Craven Herald , regarding the quality and standard of their food.

Our collective view, following our visit, was that an injustice had been done.

We felt that the balance ought to be redressed and so, together with a letter of appreciation to the staff at The Buck , a further letter expressing out “take” on the place was sent to – and published by – the Craven Herald.

As follows:-

Sir - To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of our “Dales Historic Vehicle Club”, 41 of our members travelled by classic bus ( what else?) to our lunch venue, “The Buck Inn at Malham”.

Having read the review in a recent edition of the Craven Herald, we wondered if, perhaps, our choice of venue was a mistake.

Now as you can imagine, our group, by their very nature, are a band of “seasoned souls” – not quick to rush to judgement, especially when spending ‘brass’, so the decision to go ahead with our booking was taken.

We chose a varied selection from the menu- and everyone in our group – bar none – was thoroughly satisfied with the quality, portions and presentation of the food.

The service was excellent and the total experience could not be faulted.

As we went on our way, the inevitable topic amongst our members was, of course, your recent review.

Whist we accept that it was that person’s opinion – to which he is entitled – our collective view is that ( as one of our group put it , in true “classic speak”)

“he’s talking out of his exhaust”.
