MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN
Dear Member. PLEASE READ YOUR NEWSLETTER Now this may seem a strange thing to have to ask you to do, but it does appear that although we do our best to make sure that every member receives a newsletter, not everybody actually reads it. Now I am willing to admit that your newsletter is unlikely to appear in the top ten literary awards of the century, but recent events have shown that those members whom either choose not to attend our monthly meetings, or are unable to attend, need to read their newsletters. A change in the entry conditions for Newby Hall have been made this year which required every entrant to sign a declaration of insurance, this involved me sending a new entry form on my list, to be signed and returned to me, so I could apply for our passes. It would seem other events are adopting similar conditions, so in future it may become necessary to post official entry forms out with your newsletter, for completion and return, putting your name on a list, or making a quick phone call may not be enough. You have been warned.
OTHER NEWS. First of all I would like to welcome our new members to our club, I hope you will join us on our various activities and I am sure other members will make you feel welcome. CLUB MEETINGS. Wednesday 14th July, we have a speaker for this meeting. Mr. Peter Clarke will talk to us about the Bradford City Fire Disaster. I have got to know Peter through my work and I am sure we are in for and interesting night. 11th August. David and Linda Hyde are once again organizing an evening run of approximately 30 miles, starting and finishing at Steeton Hall, with an optional Pie Pea supper (£3.95 per person). Please note this is a 7:00pm start. I know from planning several runs of my own how much work is involved, so please show your support. Please see David /Linda at our July meeting or contact them on 01756 791808. 8th September. Once again our good friend Stuart James has agreed to entertain us with one of his famous slide shows, this one is titled “50 years in the slow lane”. An evening you should not miss. CLUB STANDS. We had our first club stand of the season at Harewood House, just 17 vehicles attended, a little disappointing, but I think we put on a good show with a wide variety of vehicles parading the arena, but perhaps we need to find a new event for June 2011, any idea’s? 10th July Lakeland Rose and craft show, followed on the 11th by Leighton Hall another club stand, both events are now fully booked. 18th July is Newby Hall, only 26 vehicles booked, once again down on last year, entry is now closed. For details of other events, seed our enclosed list of fixtures. Other club matters in brief:- No lady members have come forward to join the committee, so we will carry on as we are. Membership application forms are available, anyone wishing to join DHVC will be asked to complete and submit said form. I.D. Badges\name tags. As with all clubs, membership changes, and its not always possible to remember peoples names, indeed it can be difficult getting to know new members names, and for new members especially to get to know all of us. We think this may help, at club meetings etc. It would not be compulsory but the idea was put forward at the June club meeting and seemed well supported. Another idea which got the thumbs up was an information sheet to display on our vehicles. At shows and club stands etc. Once again this is not compulsory but we think it would prove popular with visitors. A basic form is included, if you would take the time to fill it in and return to Mike Lea. (Please print clearly) this will then be printed up, laminated and returned to you for you to display in your vehicle. We also really need to make sure our membership list is up to date with any changes in address, telephone numbers, Emails etc. So we would ask you all to complete the enclosed form and hand in, or post to Mike Lea. Sadly it seems some members are unhappy with the way things are within the club, I accept that we cannot please everyone all of the time, but we do try our best, but if you do feel dissatisfied a full refund on your 2010 subscription will be made, even if I have to pay it myself. Let’s move on. And finally, in my first newsletter as your new chairman I asked for some input for the next newsletter, the result, a big fat zero! Come on! Some of you must have been on a run, or to a Gala or show, or an event you would recommend to others, some ideas, tales of woe, or joy, complaints, something please. Ken (Overworked chairman) Other items: Drive It Day, 17 April 2011 Posted by admin on 29-04-2010 A number of our member clubs have expressed concern that the nearest Sunday to 23 April in 2011 is Easter Sunday, and the following weekend is a bank holiday. To avoid a clash with Easter and inevitably heavy holiday traffic a decision has been made to alter the date of Drive It Day to Sunday 17 April 2011. We appreciate that many clubs and organisations plan their events calendar a long way in advance and we hope that this early announcement will make it possible for clubs, individuals and organisations to support the day next year. Changes to DVLA V55 Forms Posted by admin on 08-06-2010 DVLA has announced that new versions of forms V55/4 and V55/5 will be available from DVLA Local Offices from 21 June 2010. The forms have been revised to include four new data fields to enable DVLA to comply with EU Directive 2007/46/EC (relating to Type Approval). The old forms will cease to be valid on 28 June 2010. Form V55/5 is used by historic vehicle owners when seeking a first registration of an historic vehicle that is not currently registered in UK, such as when reclaiming an old number, seeking an age-related plate for a vehicle that has lost its number, or obtaining a registration for a recent import. Keepers of older vehicles will not have to answer the new questions on CO2 emissions, but they will have to use the new form for any applications submitted to DVLA after 28 June The above articles appeared in the FBHVC newsletter.
